I have so much to be thankful for and can't even write it all down. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8FhdYM1D5U1l-EsybmuReQHXwtyjnLYAICzJYIKMRXqg2WixI5FKk9owNXPgFK1xnCJJocmGMlHvf0bp9xwScJpSyp9kMwGryPqQFvDGxOkX0eJNplGT9OM4YhTftii3n784M78EWlLhr/s1600/Silhouette.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="color: #444444;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8FhdYM1D5U1l-EsybmuReQHXwtyjnLYAICzJYIKMRXqg2WixI5FKk9owNXPgFK1xnCJJocmGMlHvf0bp9xwScJpSyp9kMwGryPqQFvDGxOkX0eJNplGT9OM4YhTftii3n784M78EWlLhr/s1600/Silhouette.jpg" height="200" width="130" /></span></a><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;">The biggest blessing was the birth of my happy, healthy baby girl. <span style="background-color: white;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">Emma Christine Thompson was born September 2 at
4:48 AM weighing 8 lbs. 2 oz. and 19 inches long. She was born with long dark hair and
big chubby cheeks. Getting to the point of actually being
in labor was a long difficult process for me. I was sure she would she would
come early, and since the doctors told me the measles put me at risk for pre-term labor, Justin was so sure I'd have her at least one week maybe two
weeks early... bad thinking. I was not very happy being overdue and had quite a
few emotional breakdowns because I was still pregnant. I went to the hospital and was turned away twice the two days leading up to </span><span style="line-height: 15.3333320617676px;">actually</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"> being </span><span style="line-height: 15.3333320617676px;">admitted</span><span style="line-height: 115%;">.</span></span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;"><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">(If you're not interested in the rest of the birth story feel free to stop reading now.)</span></span></span><br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></span></span>
<br />
<span style="background: white; line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;">I was having more emotional breakdowns because I
felt like I was never going to have this baby, and Justin was depressed as
well. So we decided since it was a holiday, Labor Day, we should get out and do
something to take our minds off of it. We went to Farmington station and walked
around the shops and then went to see a movie. I was
still having contractions that I had to breathe a little bit through and they always
seemed to happen during the quiet parts of the movie. After that we did another
lap and came home to take a nap since we had been up and at the hospital the previous two nights. As I was standing next to the bed I felt
and heard a pop then felt a little gush. Hallelujah, my water had finally broke and I was actually going to meet my baby girl! We went to the hospital a couple hours later. <span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 115%;">I was 4 to 5 cm and 90% at that point. Since we
had so many false alarms, Justin and I were tired already but I knew I wanted to have a natural birth. I got on the
birthing ball while they monitored the baby and checked me in. My midwife Julie
got there a little after<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><span class="aqj">9 PM</span><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>and started
the tub. The nurses couldn't get an IV needle in my hand so the
anesthesiologist had to come to put it in when I was in the tub. My
contractions were getting stronger and I couldn't get much counter pressure in
the tub so I got out and lay on my side in the bed. My midwife and Justin did
counter pressure through each contraction and that really helped me. I was progressing well and thought maybe I could get the baby out by midnight but that was not the case. My contractions has slowed down and were not being very effective so we decided to use some Pitocin. </span><span style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 115%;">When the Pitocin started to work, I felt like
pushing again. The
nurse, Karla, was holding one leg and Justin the other. They could start to see
the head again and the nurse encouraged me to look in the mirror. I didn't
think I wanted to watch but I'm so glad that I did. It was so cool to see and
know what was happening. Finally the head got into position but my contractions were still kind of far apart at times
so as she was crowning I had to push through a couple contractions with her
head stuck right there. I definitely felt the burn and that was probably the
most painful part as I watched her head stuck there waiting for the next
contraction. I was determined to get her out with the next one and out she
came! They placed her on my chest and it was amazing! I didn't quite know what
was going on around me but I was so glad she was finally out. Justin cut the
cord and they took her to check her out really quick. Then asked if they could
weigh and measure her or if I wanted her back and I said “give her back to me!” I had such an emotional high after giving birth and felt like I could totally do it again. </span></span></span><br />
<span style="background: white; line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="background: white; line-height: 115%;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: inherit;">Childbirth was one of the hardest things I've done but also one of the coolest and most rewarding things. I did my research and prepared for it. I knew what I wanted to do but also that I couldn't control it all either. My sweet husband did great and I didn't even get mad at him. I wasn't sure how that dynamic would play out but we were an awesome team. The midwife that I chose was amazing and right by my side the whole time! Without her it would have been a lot harder and I don't think I would have loved my birth experience as much if she weren't there. If anyone is looking for midwife in the Salt Lake area, I would highly recommend you <a href="http://mtolympusobgyn.com/midwives/julie-frenette/" target="_blank">check her out</a>. </span></span><br />

<br />
<br />
The end of March was my family vacation and unfortunately Justin had to take his National Boards right in the middle of it. So I had to leave Justin behind and went with the family to EUROPE! My parents figured its only going to get harder to have these family vacations now that Amie and I are both having babies. My sister Kara also missed out but she is on a Mission spreading the gospel in Independence, MO. Even though I missed my husband, it was still an amazing trip. My dad had a medical conference in Brussels, Belgium so we all flew into London and while we stayed there for 3 nights in a 5 start hotel he went on to Brussels. We met up with him there for a night, then we all went on to Paris for the rest of the trip. We saw so many wonderful things in each city. We ate some great food as well as some not so great food too. The two pregnant ladies had some difficulty walking all day but we were so glad we got to be there and experience it all. Thanks mom and dad for the once-in-a-lifetime trip!<br />

<br />
I did bring back something from Europe that I didn't mean to though... the measles! I returned to Redding and thought I was getting the flu or a cold because my brother had been sick and I wasn't feeling great. That next weekend though I had a high fever, spots all over my body, spots in my mouth, bright red eyes, and a terrible cough. Home care is really the only treatment for measles but Justin took me to the emergency room when my fever was 104 to get checked out and pump me with some liquids to help bring it down. I stayed there for 7 hours and was out of it. I had to be quarantined. When I saw myself in the mirror I realized that I'd be pretty scared of myself if I didn't know what was going on. The nurses didn't want to release me but instead just monitor me for 3 days while the results of my blood test came back. The infection control Dr. knew that there wasn't really anything they could do for me there anymore. He had been talking with Justin and knew I'd be in good hands at home. As long as I stayed quarantined and came in if any complications arose, I was able to go home. Justin took great care of me and I made good recovery. It was a little scary there for a minute though. As far as we can tell the baby is OK too. I did make the news however! Without using my name they made a pretty good campaign for the vaccination companies and made me look like a menace to society. Hey, I didn't know I had the measles when I went out to Olive Garden! I thought it was the flu!<br />

After seeing what the CDC was doing to my family and the comments people made about the articles I was pretty upset. I felt like I was being compared to a terrorist, intentionally harming others. Once I knew I had the measles I obviously stayed away from people. But why should they be so scared if they were vaccinated? My parents chose not to vaccinate me and I do not hold that against them. Did I enjoy having these illnesses? Of course not but my immune system has been strengthened by having chicken pox, measles, and rubella, etc. The measles is not a deadly disease. It used to be commonplace for children to get it and recover without any problems. Only if they had certain serious but very rare complications was it deadly. "<span style="background-color: white; font-family: 'PT Sans', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20px;">From 1953-1963, about 500,000 children got the Measles every year out of a population of 2.5 to 4 million who were susceptible. That is a 12.5 to 20% infection rate. Of those infected about 500 had serious complications and died. That is a 0.1% mortality rate." A look at this graph shows that the measles was already on its way down due to better health and sanitary standards before the vaccine was even introduced. Hmm.</span><br />

I don't like to be in the middle of a controversy, but I was thrown in face first. I believe some vaccines are good and even necessary. I think that whether or not parents choose to vaccinate their children is a personal decision to be made thoughtfully and prayerfully. I can respect those who choose to vaccinate as well as those who do not, without argument. I just wish that others would show the same respect, as we are all just doing what we believe to be best for families and children.</div>

We will have moved twice with potential for a third, we have a baby due in August, and Justin graduates as a Doctor of Chiropractic in October.<br />
<br />
But first things first, the biggest news. Yes, we're pregnant! It's a little girl and she is due the middle to end of August. We weren't exactly trying but we had decided to stop preventing having kids. But both of us knew without saying it that it was time to have a baby. Now we refer to her as "belly" most of the time since we haven't been able to think of a name yet. She is pretty active in there, especially in the mornings. Justin and I love to feel her moving around, and he is convinced about how cute she is already.<br />

<br />
Already a lot has happened just since being here in Redding. I am so grateful to my in-laws for helping us pack up our home in Davenport and take it to Utah. We moved here the first week of March and are renting a room out of an elderly couple's home. At first I was a little weary of the situation but, you can live anywhere for 3 months, right?! Our room is right next to theirs and our bathroom is just across the hall. They are really sweet people though and have been really kind to us. We have just the bare necessities: bed, closet, desk, mini fridge, microwave, and of course our own little balcony. Justin works at the VA clinic Mon-Thurs and I've taken the opportunity to just take it easy these 3 months. (I've read a lot of books!)<br />
<br />
Now we are getting ready to move to Utah for Justin's second and final internship. He will be working at his uncle's office until graduation in October and then we'll see what happens from there. We could stay or we could buy/open up a practice somewhere else. I'm just taking it one step at a time!<br />

It is one of the most beautiful places! I love the feeling of laying on a white sandy beach with crystal clear water, reading a good book surrounded by your best friends/family. It is my favorite thing ever.<br />
<br />
My parents told Justin and I to just find a way to get down there and they would take care of the rest. So we saved up and bought plane tickets because there is no way I would miss out on that! We stayed at the Marriott Frenchman's Cove right on the beach. Justin had to sleep out with Chaz on the pull out and I slept in with my sisters but we didn't care.<br />

Justin and I have now lived in Iowa for over a year and he is taking his first part of the four part National Board tests. He really is becoming a doctor! I finally got my certification as a dental assistant. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about that anymore!<br />

This summer we went with my family to St. Thomas (I'll share pictures of paradise later) and it was amazing. I love that place but loved being with my family even more. We all have so much fun together and even Justin and Chaz become the older/younger brothers they never had! Justin's Mom and Dad were able to come out to Davenport for different reasons but we were able to see them too. It is just so nice to be with family.<br />
<br />
I have a new calling in the ward. Yes, that makes my fifth calling since being here. I am now the Young Woman's president! It is a little scary for me and half the time I have no idea what I'm doing but I love being with the girls. I still feel like I fit right in. When I was in young women's I loved going and was excited if we had more than one activity in a week, but now I'm realizing how much work it is and how much my leaders actually did for me. I just hope I can be half as good as the leaders I had. Justin has a new calling as the Ward Executive Secretary so that keeps him pretty busy as well.<br />
<br />
I signed up to take Humanities 202 from BYU independent study. I want and feel that it is important to finish my degree. Justin and I have worked it out so that I'll be able to go back and finish while we are living in Utah for a couple years. I just love BYU :)<br />
<br />
Its almost my birthday again and I just cannot believe how fast time has gone by. Next thing I know we'll be moving back to Utah and then on to... who knows where.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-53979949741490027582012-05-29T10:12:00.001-07:002012-05-29T11:28:55.419-07:00First Trip to Chicago<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Chicago is only a 3 hour drive from Davenport. Justin and I have been talking about going ever since we moved out here and its now been a whole year! Justin's cousin and family are moving back to Utah this next month and wanted to go to Chicago one last time so it was perfect for us to go together. We all had some time off for the Memorial Day weekend so we packed up and left Friday morning and drove home Saturday night. We stayed in a little place close to the O'Hare airport and were able to take a shuttle to the airport where we could then take the train into downtown Chicago.<br />
<br />
Friday we walked the Magnificent Mile and did some sight seeing. We went to the park, saw the huge bean, looked up at the Sears/Willis tower... To finish the night we just had to get some Chicago style pizza. We went to <a href="http://www.giordanos.com/" target="_blank">Giordano's</a> for dinner and the pizza was amazing. It was filled with an outrageous amount of cheese but the crust was the best part.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The plan for Saturday was the Shedd Aquarium. There was a line two hours long to get in, but luckily we had a stroller for the little girls and there just happened to be a stroller line. So we only had to wait about 20-30 mins and got right in. There was so much to see and do there that you really could send all day exploring! (Justin and I did have to take a little break though to find a real Chicago hot dog for lunch.) </div>

We had tons of fun and were glad we got to share it with our cousins. Now we can go back and know what we're doing. We'll find more things to see and places to eat. We love good food and will travel to find it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On the drive home we were struggling to stay awake a little bit so after treating it with our caffeinated beverage of choice, Dr. Pepper, we decided to make lists of all the Disney movies we want to eventually own as well as musicals. It really helped keep us going through all the ridiculous toll roads!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Chicago is such a cool place and it was different than I was expecting. All the buildings are so unique, and everything is so close together. I'm so glad we could take trains and not worry about crazy traffic. I'm excited to go back and check out more of the city and go to stores and places that they just don't have in little old Davenport.</div>

I love summertime. The warm sun, green grass, and the smell of sunscreen all make me so happy inside.<br />
<br />
As Justin and I were planing out our menu for this week we were trying to think of some good meals for warmer days. I had been thinking along the lines of a pasta salad and so we combined our ideas to make this refreshing yet filling pasta delight! One thing that I love is a colorful dinner plate and this dish is full of color.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Summer Pasta</u></div>
1 package of your favorite cheese tortellini (cooked to package directions)<br />
1 cup cherry tomatoes (sliced in halves)<br />
1 cup broccoli (blanched)<br />
1/2 an avocado<br />
1/2 cup garbanzo beans<br />
green onion<br />
Parmesan cheese<br />
"Good Seasons" Garlic Herb dressing<br />
S&P<br />
<br />
This was so good with the sweet tang of the cherry tomatoes to the creamy avocado, I just loved it and can't wait to make it again. Next time I think we'll add some grilled chicken and maybe try some lemon zest.<br />

One year ago, this month, Justin and I where married for time and eternity. We where married in the Mesa, AZ Temple on the 30th of April. It was really an amazing day that I would do over and over again if I could. The weather was beautiful, everything ran smoothly, and there is nothing I would change about it. </div>

Looking back over the year it has gone by so incredibly fast! I can hardly believe that I've been married for a year. I still feel like we are just barely newlyweds. Marriage is not exactly what I thought it would be but it is definitely worth it and something that I love. We've had our challenges as we both adjust to living in the same house bringing together some totally different routines and ways of doing things. But, it is so nice to be able to hang out and be with each other all the time. As we have leaned how to communicate and work through things I have learned a lot about myself and have grown a good deal too. I am so thankful for Justin and his patience with me. He is always so sweet to me and just wants to make me happy. I really am a lucky girl to have him with me, together forever. </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-9867459075681988402012-03-18T12:15:00.000-07:002012-04-04T20:06:23.537-07:00Healthy Choices...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Growing up in the Hansen household we always ate pretty well. My mom is an awesome cook and my dad is great with the grill. Because my dad is a doctor of natural medicine (<a href="http://www.drhansen.com/" target="_blank">Dr.Hansen</a>) he has always pushed for healthy meals. We weren't crazy health nuts but we didn't get a lot of junk or eat out much when I was a kid. My mom would experiment with different veggies to make yummy and healthy dinners. Sometimes it took a lot of convincing to get us to eat but other times we would gobble it up. As I have grown up, I now have more appreciation for the meals my mom would make and the variety of vegetables I have been exposed to. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Justin and I have decided to try and be more aware of what we are eating and to make healthier choices. If I could I would always have the fridge stocked with lots fruits and vegetables but its not always easy on a student budget. I have decided to avoid sweets and extra sugar where possible. I am a self proclaimed sugar addict and I need to break the habit! It is really hard but I'm starting small. I don't ever plan to cut out all sugar completely but I will definitely cut out a good amount.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One meal my mom used to make is eggplant sandwiches. When I made the suggestion to Justin he was a little bit skeptical but I convinced him to let me make them and they are actually pretty delicious. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You just bread the thick cut eggplant and fry it in a little bit of vegetable oil.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTGmSPtfhyphenhyphenUxzKQ_nt4lr7ihWxyUaAKnNDu95_4ao3e7UTAdY8wFXA3POx9iCYmJUOj7tomm9JtNUOZ7BFH2I71GTQn_HA1fbRrNVkTcMrFvbrC7N6eQ4QJE-5qXcUhWf8ZH5J8O0iClb/s1600/IMG_0106.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTGmSPtfhyphenhyphenUxzKQ_nt4lr7ihWxyUaAKnNDu95_4ao3e7UTAdY8wFXA3POx9iCYmJUOj7tomm9JtNUOZ7BFH2I71GTQn_HA1fbRrNVkTcMrFvbrC7N6eQ4QJE-5qXcUhWf8ZH5J8O0iClb/s400/IMG_0106.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You toast your bread, add your eggplant, mozzarella and/or parmesan cheese, and marinara sauce. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUVAs6hEXKwD02hh5GCIs4vOoNQo67EM9rBMX8J6kJv_Do_dzbwSxTARRen8qGVxW573RERNpTH3E_TBfeERRFwFgG_VpKbNUm-61zqRgknKSTZBklY-kQ-64PifGm1wwSrcqIoqOvjV2/s1600/IMG_0107.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUVAs6hEXKwD02hh5GCIs4vOoNQo67EM9rBMX8J6kJv_Do_dzbwSxTARRen8qGVxW573RERNpTH3E_TBfeERRFwFgG_VpKbNUm-61zqRgknKSTZBklY-kQ-64PifGm1wwSrcqIoqOvjV2/s400/IMG_0107.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Give it a quick broil to melt the cheese...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYVM6CNN4X4r2sAlE59GDhfTv8_k99zidL5ONWFyKmjXwGS3dXGp2W05k5X5WNstnPwMw7ZwJquMm6Kppqznz__8yS2Ul_H7Q3boya7w_5tRfMANdui4WO4495_VUiV64Vl6FzL-0KNgET/s1600/IMG_0112.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="298" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYVM6CNN4X4r2sAlE59GDhfTv8_k99zidL5ONWFyKmjXwGS3dXGp2W05k5X5WNstnPwMw7ZwJquMm6Kppqznz__8yS2Ul_H7Q3boya7w_5tRfMANdui4WO4495_VUiV64Vl6FzL-0KNgET/s400/IMG_0112.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
and there you go! If you don't think you like eggplant, give this a try, and I bet you'll like it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know its fried but it is still more veggies and less meat. I like that, and I like to be healthy.</div>

I mean cookin'I love food. A little too much (as my love handles can attest). Justin and I both have fun thinking of what to make and finding recipes from family cookbooks and using ideas from things we see off like The Food Channel and stuff.<br />
<br />
We saw a Rhodes Rolls commercial the other day that suggested you use the rolls as pizza dough. So we had to try it. We made a fancy half mushroom, sausage half leftover chimichurri, steak, tomato pizza. Turned out to be delicious.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A family Pot Pie recipe that was super yummy posted by Justin's cousin. It called for white wine so maybe that's why it tasted so good...</div>

Buffalo Chicken Salad is one of our favorites. Justin batters and shallow fries the chicken. Then we make some buffalo sauce to drench them in before putting it on top of some romaine with black beans, green onion and ranch of course!<br />

I love Facebook for stalking people but that is about it. I hardly ever post anything and I certainly do not make status updates. The last status I had was probably about my wedding... and before that, my engagement... I figure I can't just start putting up status' or people may think I've gone crazy! But the truth is... I kind of want to say random things to the world sometimes. I got an iPhone for my birthday from my man and discovered the beauty of so many other forms of social media. I now love Instagram and more recently Twitter. With Twitter I can just say whatever I want, whenever I feel so inclined! It's awesome! Who cares if anyone really sees it, but I have fun with it. Now I just have to watch that I'm not spending more time on my phone than with my man. Oops!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-12099182412207821162012-02-20T17:46:00.000-08:002012-04-04T20:02:21.416-07:00I have never really made Valentines Day a big deal so this year was really no different... except that I am married now and have a super sweet hubby who likes to spoil me.<br />
We went out to dinner the weekend before Valentines day and planned to see The Vow but it ended up being sold out. (We saw it the next weekend and I wasn't as thrilled with it as I thought I would be.) So for the actual day I just planned to have a nice dinner with Justin and give him a homemade card. When we got home from work/school there was a little white rose on our kitchen table. I was so surprised because I had the car all day, he had to have his friend drive him around. Then I went to the living room and on the side table there was a vase of flowers and some sparkling cider. After telling Justin how sweet and what a great surprise that was, I went upstairs to change and found a whole bouquet of roses on the dresser! It was perfect and I felt so special. I really was not expecting anything at all! Justin cooked an awesome dinner for us of grilled steak, asparagus, and rice. He planned everything out and it was so good! Best Valentines Day yet!<br />

Its a new year and I think it's going to be a good one!!<br />
We had an awesome Christmas and New Years in the gorgeous Arizona with my family. It was so nice to be in 70 degree weather and take a break from our busy work/school schedules. On Christmas Justin and I received some pretty awesome gifts from my parents and siblings. (Thank you!) We ate so well the whole week and got more than our fill of shopping. It was great!<br />

<br />
While driving around town I would often catch Justin looking around and saying "yeah we could live here".... Oh YES! I would love to end up back in Arizona for good.<br />
When we finally had to leave it was 80 out as we boarded our first light back to our little house in Iowa on Sunday. We even sat across from Mitt Romney's son on our flight from Minneapolis. That Tuesday we voted in the first Caucus and were so proud that out votes really counted (even though Santorum somehow pulled out the win in the end).<br />
We got back into the swing of things with studying for tests, working out, and trying to get out of work at a decent hour. Right before we left I was released from two of the three callings I had: Activity Days and the Relief Society Board. Then guess where they put me!? In Young Womens of course! If is kind of a scary calling for me because I don't know if I am old enough to have anything good to teach these girls but for the same reason I like being in it because I still feel like I'm a part of the Young Women. So it will be a calling that I'll stress over a lot but I am really excited about it too.<br />
As its a new year and all, Justin and I have made some goals as a family. One goal is to start eating healthier and to workout at least three times a week. We want to have beach bodies by the time we go om my family's summer vacation to St. Thomas.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I went to this beautiful place with my family about two and a half years ago and I am so excited to go back. So Justin and I are saving our pennies and working out at the Palmer gym in hopes that by June we'll look good! I also started to go to Zumba every Saturday and love it! This same studio is where we go salsa dancing and they are opening a new studio closer to where I work. It's really exciting.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It has been a pretty mild winter here they say and I'm just fine with that. It has snowed a hand full of times and I've definitely slid both in the car and on foot a hand full of times as well. I think that this mild winter is a blessing for me and I'm grateful for boots and coats!</div>

Everything about it just makes me so happy. I truly believe its the most wonderful time of the year!! The smell of pine and baked goodies, the sounds of carols and bells, the crowds shopping for gifts and treats, and the happy spirit that everyone has, it all is what makes me so happy.<br />
We got a little four foot tree that I decorated, and we put up the other very few decorations we have. The Christmas music has been playing since mid- November and my sister even gave me the new Justin Bieber Christmas which is fantastic. N'Sync Christmas is also a childhood favorite to help bring in the season.<br />

My sweet parents are flying us out to Arizona for the holiday and I am so excited! I can't wait to be there with Justin and the rest of my family to celebrate!<br />
My job at the Orthodontic office is going great and I am learning new things everyday. I have made some not so fun mistakes along the way though. (Like knocking over a box on the the floor that was filled with hundreds of the colors that go on the braces. Then I had to sterilize them and sort them again.) Justin is studying like crazy because this 2nd Trimester is the toughest but he's doing well. He always has something cool to share that he has been learning.<br />
It snowed here this week and stuck! I enjoyed watching it... but then I had to go out and drive in it. Lets just say that snow and ice on the streets are not my friend.<br />

Sorry I'm not the best at blogging regularly but here are some things we've been up to lately.<br />
<br />
I love my new jobs and I get to learn new things everyday! I'm in training and on my feet all day which I like so much more than sitting at a desk. Justin finished his first trimester at Palmer off really well and he is now into second tri. Only 8 more to go.... For Halloween we threw together some quick costumes for our ward's Trunk-or-Treat (a witch and a wizard). It was fun to see all our favorite little kids and babies dressed up too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Justin got a gun for the house and took me out shooting with another couple last weekend. After that we went out to dinner and had some great food at Woodfire Grill. While we waited for our table we went up to the Skywalk in downtown Davenport. It has a really pretty view of the Mississippi at sunset.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Daylight saving kicked in so now its a little bit lighter out when we drive to school/work but it gets dark before 6pm which I don't really like. Its getting pretty cold out too! We all know how I feel about the cold so I'm not getting to excited for winter. We both got new calling since the last time I wrote. I am now an Activity Days leader and Justin is Weeblos leader. Since it's November and getting cold, I got out the handful of Christmas decorations we have and started listening to Christmas music. I just LOVE Christmas time! (and the new Justin Bieber Christmas album) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We heard that Mitt Romney was coming to Davenport so Justin and I made sure to be there AND get a picture! Perfect for FHE! His speech was really impressive and he is super nice!</div>

I turned 21 on the 9th and my little sisters turned 15 and 17 on the 12th and 15th. I can hardly believe how old everyone is getting!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TZZrXohZfR0/TpuHYNCnIXI/AAAAAAAAAVg/nUCe46j6gnM/s1600/DSC02575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TZZrXohZfR0/TpuHYNCnIXI/AAAAAAAAAVg/nUCe46j6gnM/s320/DSC02575.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
My trip home was amazing! Filled with more shopping than I've done in months combined with delicious food that may have added a few lbs to my figure, I'd say it was a success. (Thank you mommy!) It was wonderful to see my family and spend a short weekend with them. I got to see my cute brother play football with his undefeated team too. I got my hair done by Tim who is amazing and was able to see one of my best friends from BYU. My birthday dinner was at Oreganos where we got cheesy bread, salad, wings, pasta, multiple types of pizza, and it wouldn't be complete without the original pizzookie! All was to share of course and it was so good.<br />
<br />
Since we did some damage shopping over the weekend, and I found some things at home to bring back to Iowa my suitcase was twice as heavy going back. When I checked in at the airport it was five pounds over the limit. So I did what I had to do and pulled out all my new shoes (and some old) and stuffed them in my purse and the already filled bag I was carrying on! Shoes and heels where spilling out of my purse. On the upside, I got cold on the plane and there was an easily accessible pair of boots!<br />
<br />
It was good to come back home to Justin who took me out to dinner the next weekend to Biaggi's. It was a first for us but it was also delicious. (look and that dessert!) Thanks Justin for letting me go play for a weekend and treating me to a great birthday dinner! He also got me an awesome waterbottle, the 20 minute insanity workout (which really is insane), and two of my favorite movies: Two Weeks Notice and A Knights Tale.<br />

It was a great birthday!</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-78849509465158047792011-09-26T19:18:00.000-07:002011-09-26T19:18:13.223-07:00jobs, travels, and birthdaysThe last three jobs I've had I've only lasted three months each. Is that bad? I'm going to go with no. One was a summer job, one was a semester job and my last one was a starter job. Now that doesn't sound so bad! I was lucky enough to find a pretty good job out here in Iowa fairly quickly. I was a receptionist that had a few other responsibilities but nothing to crazy. I learned some good stuff about insurance but most of the time I felt like I was wasting away. I decided to keep looking and found an orthodontic office that was hiring. I worked for an orthodontist as a senior in high school and loved it. So I went over and met the doctor and staff and got a tour of their amazing office. It is seriously so cool. By the time I left I desperately wanted the job. I kept going back and then I got the job!! I will start in two weeks and I can't wait. I'll be in both the front office and back office. Hopefully they'll train me to be an assistant too!<br />
<br />
Also, my 21st birthday is in two weeks! Whooo hooo! I love birthdays. My mommy was so kind and decided to fly me back to AZ for my birthday weekend. I'll be at the pool, getting my hair done, shopping and going to my favorite restaurant. It'll be great. I'm so excited to see my family and I get to see my cute little brother play football. It'll be an awesome weekend except that I'll be away from my sweetie for the first time since we've been married. I will miss you my hubby but I'm so excited for this much needed getaway. <br />

We were really lucky to have had so many things given to us before moving out here. Things like couches, a bed, a desk, dresser, kitchen table, a sound system, good pots and pans, awesome gift cards, and lots of other things. They have helped us so much. We have been blessed so that we haven't had to buy too many things to get our home in order.<br />
<br />
Justin and I feel really strongly about staying out of as much debt as possible and living within our means. I have a full time job out here and was lucky to have found it so quickly. We use the student loans for tuition, books, and anything else school related. The rest of our expenses come from my paycheck. Its not always the easiest but we think its what is best for us. If I was unable to work or if we had kids it would be a different story and we would be glad to take advantage of programs to help provide for and feed our family. But I'm glad to be able to work and let Justin focus on school and his goal of becoming a great Chiropractor.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-67610732652301692412011-09-16T15:44:00.000-07:002011-09-16T15:44:55.427-07:00Clean ClothesUpon moving to Iowa and finding a place to live for the next three years I had a few requirements. One was a washer and dryer. (In our next home I'm adding a dishwasher to the list...) I love things to be clean. Especially my clothes, sheets, towels, ect. I had done my laundry at a laundermat while at school and I dreded doing my laundry because something always went wrong. I just wanted to wash my clothes from the comfort of my own house! So we were going to rent some from our landlords but decided it would be cheaper over three years to just buy some. When I got my job here at a quite little office I mentioned to my boss that we were looking for a washer/dryer and he said he knew a way to get a great deal on a fancy new red pair. Justin and I did some research and decided to take him up on that generous offer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjv8MUCH4QmR99lthwZ_8LqVy87_JrkqxpVEQeIDgmzqIYlbkUIclwH51Tv-nTRXAAOBniPreibIUQm4eoU6wCE4IBsBZuSpoWOfLQbRyCHdqGlX4HAEva69GYt6W4gYh9t93fjrmvNPZ2/s1600/DSC02531.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="228" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjv8MUCH4QmR99lthwZ_8LqVy87_JrkqxpVEQeIDgmzqIYlbkUIclwH51Tv-nTRXAAOBniPreibIUQm4eoU6wCE4IBsBZuSpoWOfLQbRyCHdqGlX4HAEva69GYt6W4gYh9t93fjrmvNPZ2/s320/DSC02531.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>So now I have this awesome washer and dryer to do my laundry whenever I like. All I have to worry about is avoiding the scary spiders that live in our basement. Speaking of spiders... there are tons here and I have a small case of arachnophobia. Its not a very good combo. Anyway, they spin webs on our back door so that I can't come inside until Justin kills them and tears down the web. But they always come back and are there to scare me the next night. Its awful but hopefully I'm getting better with tolerating them. Maybe.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-39851685597927923282011-09-13T19:20:00.000-07:002011-09-13T19:21:00.141-07:00Go Cougs!When I'm at work sometimes there isn't much to do so I have a lot of time to think. I think about what I'm going to make for dinner, the things I forgot to get at the grocery store, how I wished I worked out more, how its getting colder here, what Justin is doing at school and what I would be doing if I were at school. I think about what I should major in when I eventually (hopefully) go back. I never really figured it out while I was at BYU but I think I was on the right track. I was studying Exercise and Wellness, which Justin sometimes thinks is a fake major, but I really liked it. I think I figured out what it is that I would like to go back for and that is Dietetics. I love learning about nutrition and the effects what we eat takes on our body. I would love to work out diets for people, especially kids, who have certain conditions or allergies. I could work with pediatritions or in even in Justin's clinic one day. Who knows, but I think that sounds good.<br />
<br />
I hope I can finish a degree when Justin and I move to Utah for a couple years. There really is something special and truly inspired about the BYU campus. I just love it. <br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cf/BYU_Campus_North.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="File:BYU Campus North.jpg" height="266" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/BYU_Campus_North.jpg/800px-BYU_Campus_North.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>So what it comes down to is... I miss BYU. A lot. Particularly during this season of football. The campus is beautiful, the people are full of spirit and enthusiam, you're getting into the swing of your classes and it isn't too cold to play outside with your friends til the late hours of the night. Even when it starts to get too cold to go out, you can always stay up all night laughing and baking delicious things with your roomies. (I miss you Haleigh and Amanda!) <br />
<br />
Eventhough we don't have TV at our place, our friends have been kind enough to let us watch the football games at their homes. I can't pretend to know too much of what goes on all the time but I just enjoy the game (and food) and sport my BYU attire. It will do for now!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-60830657841631217122011-09-03T07:12:00.000-07:002011-09-05T08:55:42.086-07:00the Mexican in meSometimes I crave Mexican food, because out here in Iowa its hard to find a place to get good Mexican food like there is in Arizona or even Utah. It's one thing I really miss being out here. But Justin and I had heard about this place called Azteca so we decided to try it last night. Turns out that its amazing! I was so happy from the moment we walked in because it had the colors, the smells and the smiling faces that you would expect to find in a good Mexican restaurant. Then we sat down and were given warm chips and hot salsa. By this time I thought I'd left the little state of Iowa and was back home! I got a quesadilla supreme and Justin got the carne asada taco and both were delilcious! So needless to say, we loved everything and we'll be going back regularly.<br />

There is some decorating to be done but, for our first place together, I love it! Our backyard is Duck Creek and it has an awesome bike/walking path (you can kind of see it in the picture). I sometimes tell myself I'm going to be a runner so I like that feature. </div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8891021183816305997.post-76004125259200331782011-08-18T19:30:00.000-07:002012-04-05T20:29:05.803-07:00married lifeSo marriage is pretty cool. Look what my sweet husband got for me while I was at work.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He's a cutie.</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He has also cleaned the house a few times for me too! I love little surprises and Justin does a good job with those. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We have been married for three and a half months now. It feels like we've been together so long but at the same time it is still so new. I love it and wouldn't change it! Since we got married I have definitely learned a lot about myself and how to live with someone else there all the time. It's been an adventure but it's been a good one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what our typical day looks like: Around 7:20am I drop Justin off at school and then I head to work. There I play the part of a receptionist and wait untill the clock says 4:55pm when I finally can go pick up my hubby. We head home and think of what we can create for a delicious dinner. We might watch something like "So You Think You Can Dance" and I talk about how much I just need to go dancing. Sometimes we make a treat by blending milk, blueberries, and a little sugar together. It sounds weird but its actually quite tasty. Justin studies and I help quiz him, then its time to sleep so we can get up the next day and leave on time. We don't seem to be very exciting but we are having fun making our life together out here in Iowa!</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03113108182491685630noreply@blogger.com0
